In
every City, Town, Village, or Hamlet, you will
find what is most often referred to as a "Cyclo". Most of the
larger cities had thousands of them, and they were always anxiously
waiting for your business, waiting to take you anywhere you
wanted to go. Like Taxi Drivers in other parts of the world,
they knew all the
hot
spots, and, of course,
all the not spots. This Photo was taken in Vinh-Long,
about 60 miles south of Saigon (now called Ho Chi Minh City).
Vinh-long
was a bustling city (located in the province of the same name) with a huge
U.S. Installation nearby. Cyclos were the main mode of transportation between
the city and the U.S. installation, and, of course how we got to and from
the bars. There were usually plenty of Cyclos to go around during most
of the day, except at curfew time, when they proved
to be as scarce as a horse without flies!
This
particular fellow was trying desperately to repair his Cyclo just in time
for the evening curfew rush!
